Burkina Faso and Mali draw 2-2 in women’s AFCON friendly
Burkina Faso’s women’s national team continued their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a second friendly match against Mali. After a goalless draw in their first meeting, the two sides played out an entertaining 2-2 stalemate on Sunday, 7 June 2026 at the Stade du 4 Août in Ouagadougou.
Mali struck first in this friendly encounter. In the 10th minute, Fatoumata Diarra put the Aiglonnes ahead with a well-taken goal. The Etalons remained composed and gradually took control of the ball, forcing Mali to chase the game.
A powerful shot from Burkina Faso rattled the crossbar, but Deborah Guira was alert to follow up and slot home the rebound to level the score at 1-1.
Despite Mali’s technical quality, Burkina Faso dictated the tempo. A brilliant move culminated in Judicaëlle Ouoba curling the ball into the top corner, leaving the Mali goalkeeper with no chance. Coach Pascal Sawadogo’s side went into the break with a 2-1 lead.
Mali fight back
In the second half, Burkina Faso enjoyed more possession while Mali attacked but struggled to break down the Burkinabe defence.
Eventually, Mali were awarded a penalty, and Aissata Traoré converted confidently to make it 2-2. Both teams pushed for a winner but neither could find the net before the final whistle.
Earlier in the week, the two sides had played out a 0-0 draw. These friendlies are part of their buildup to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco.
Burkina Faso are in a group alongside Côte d’Ivoire, Tanzania and South Africa. Mali will face Ghana, Cape Verde and Cameroon in their group.
The tournament is scheduled from 25 July to 16 August 2026. This match provided another valuable test for Pascal Sawadogo and his squad as they continue their preparations.
