The Social Democratic Front’s second vice-president has been appointed by party leader Joshua Osih to lead the newly formed national electoral preparation commission ahead of Cameroon’s 2027 legislative and municipal elections.

Set for 2027 unless rescheduled, the municipal and legislative polls represent pivotal moments for Cameroon’s political landscape. The SDF, as the leading opposition party, has signaled its commitment to approaching these elections with meticulous preparation.

The party’s National Executive Committee convened in Bamenda on June 13, 2026, to establish a dedicated National Electoral Preparation Commission. This technical body aims to strengthen the party’s operational framework, ensuring transparency and proactive engagement throughout the electoral process.

A commitment to grassroots mobilization and enhanced polling station oversight

In this strategic move, economist and academic Louis Marie Kakdeu has been appointed director of the SDF’s National Electoral Preparation Commission. The decision, made during the Bamenda NEC meeting, underscores the party’s focus on identifying and recruiting qualified candidates across underserved constituencies.

The commission’s mandate also includes revitalizing the SDF’s grassroots structures in its traditional strongholds and laying the groundwork for a structured campaign ahead of the upcoming polls. Kakdeu, a trusted figure within the party, brings extensive experience as former campaign director for Joshua Osih in the October 2025 presidential election.

An economist and fiscal policy expert, Kakdeu advocates for a systematic return to grassroots engagement and enhanced oversight at polling stations to uphold transparency. His appointment reflects the SDF’s resolve to rebuild its political presence at the grassroots level following recent electoral setbacks.
