Défense : N’Djamena et Paris examinent de nouvelles pistes de coopération sécuritaire

During the Eurosatory international defence and security exhibition, Chad’s Minister of Armed Forces, Veterans and War Victims, General Issakha Malloua Djamouss, met with French Minister of Armed Forces Catherine Vautrin. This meeting follows the political dialogue between Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno and French President Emmanuel Macron.

The discussions centred on bilateral ties and future prospects for defence and security cooperation. Both nations reiterated their dedication to upholding each other’s strategic interests and sovereignty.

The ministers examined ways to implement the letter of intent recently signed between Chad and France. They expressed a shared desire to forge a partnership rooted in mutual trust and ongoing dialogue to tackle current security challenges.

Chad reaffirmed its commitment to a balanced, mutually beneficial cooperation that is vital for regional stability and for strengthening the Chadian Armed Forces. Air force collaboration is a top priority, encompassing training, intelligence support, and French assistance to boost Chad’s aerial capabilities.

The French military seeks to regain access to the N’Djamena air base to enable aircraft takeoffs and landings when needed. A Chadian general noted that a French presence could help address security threats effectively.

Chadian authorities are moving closer to France, expressing dissatisfaction with the security proposals offered by other partners.
