Chad honors new generation of military school cadets
N’Djamena, June 4, 2026 — The skies over Chad’s capital bore witness to a moment of pride and transformation today as the Inter-Service Military Schools Grouping (GEMIA) celebrated the induction of its sixth cohort of military school cadets alongside an awards ceremony recognizing academic and athletic excellence.
A high-profile gathering of top military and civilian leaders, including General of Division Hisseine Abderamane Haggar and Second Chief of General Staff Yangmmargue Beh Félix, filled the venue. Among the attendees were defense attachés from allied nations, the Mayor of N’Djamena, the Sultan of the city’s first district, proud parents, and former cadets whose journeys had paved the way for this new generation.
The event marked a pivotal milestone for the 76 cadets who entered GEMIA on October 6, 2025. Through months of rigorous training—far from the comforts of home—they forged bonds of brotherhood, camaraderie, and resilience. « Today, they shed the label of ‘rookies’ to emerge as full-fledged members of the Enfants de Troupe,» declared the GEMIA commander, emphasizing their evolution from inexperienced recruits to disciplined leaders.
His speech echoed the vision of President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, who has repeatedly stated that « Chad’s future is built within its schools.» The GEMIA’s motto, « Learn to build better, » encapsulates this philosophy, anchored in values of honor, discipline, and excellence. The cadets’ journey embodies these principles, shaping them into the disciplined, skilled individuals the nation needs.
The ceremony also honored standout performers across multiple categories. Top honors went to the school’s valedictorian, the most exemplary cadets, the highest achievers in their respective classes, and the standout athlete of the year. The commander praised their dedication before urging them to sustain their momentum and continue striving for greatness.
In a final address, the GEMIA leader extended a call to action to stakeholders and the Association of Former Cadets, urging them to collaborate in elevating the institution to a national benchmark for military education. As he wrapped up, he extended warm wishes for a restful vacation to all personnel and cadets, while expressing gratitude to the parents whose support had been instrumental in shaping the nation’s future leaders.
