Chad vice premier minister assesses regional governance in Moundou
The Vice Prime Minister responsible for Territorial Administration, Limane Mahamat, has been in Moundou since May 19, 2026, on a mission to monitor and evaluate regional governance.
From May 20 to 21, discussions took place at the Logone Occidental provincial council headquarters, bringing together government delegates from southern provinces, prefects, mayors of urban communes, provincial council presidents, and members of parliament.
At the opening of the sessions, the government delegate for Logone Occidental, Dago Yacoub, welcomed the delegation from N’Djamena. He emphasized that this meeting would allow authorities to gain deeper insights into local realities and the population’s most pressing needs. In his view, the mission provides the Vice Prime Minister with a chance to “grasp firsthand the field realities” and deliver targeted solutions to expressed concerns.
Speaking during the event, Vice Prime Minister Limane Mahamat highlighted the southern region’s vital role in the national economy, describing it as the country’s “agricultural breadbasket” due to its contribution to food security. He also addressed pressing security challenges affecting southern provinces, including conflicts between herders and farmers, intercommunal tensions, and the illegal circulation of weapons. These issues, he noted, undermine social cohesion and deepen divisions within communities.
Through this mission, Chadian authorities aim to strengthen local governance and enhance coordination between the central administration and local governments.
