The Côte d’Ivoire is solidifying its role on the global diplomatic stage by actively participating in the second session of the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) at the United Nations headquarters in New York. Through this strategic engagement, the country underscores its commitment to migration governance rooted in cooperation, human dignity, and sustainable development.

This high-level assembly focuses on reviewing the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, adopted in 2018 in Marrakech. It brings together nations to address the pressing challenges and opportunities of global human mobility.

Dr. Hinin Moustapha, Director-General of the National Population Office (ONP), represented Côte d’Ivoire during key discussions. Speaking on behalf of Dr. Souleymane Diarrassouba, Minister of Planning and Development, he highlighted the nation’s achievements in migration management, including improved data systems, vulnerability reduction, anti-discrimination measures, and strengthened international cooperation.

Data-driven migration policies

A central focus of the Ivorian delegation was the advancement of its migration data infrastructure. The country has undergone a structural overhaul of its data collection and analysis mechanisms to generate reliable, disaggregated, and up-to-date information. This initiative aims to empower policymakers with evidence-based insights to craft effective migration strategies.

A landmark achievement in this effort was the 2025 national migration survey, a comprehensive study designed to position Côte d’Ivoire as a leader in African migration statistics and data-driven governance.

Protecting migrants and promoting inclusion

Beyond statistical rigor, Côte d’Ivoire prioritizes the protection and social integration of migrants. The government has implemented integrated support systems and inclusive social policies to ensure dignified living conditions and reduce vulnerabilities among migrant populations.

Combating discrimination remains a cornerstone of the nation’s migration strategy. Through awareness campaigns and institutional reforms, authorities are fostering a more inclusive society that upholds human rights and equality.

Global solidarity in migration governance

The Ivorian delegation advocated for a migration governance model built on shared responsibility and international solidarity. Recognizing that migration challenges transcend borders, the country emphasized the need for collaborative action among countries of origin, transit, and destination to create sustainable solutions.
