Diomaye president coalition condemns ousmane sonko’s remarks on state institutions

The Diomaye Président coalition has strongly criticized recent statements made by Ousmane Sonko during the inauguration of the Pastef headquarters in Mbacké. Coalition leaders describe his remarks as disrespectful toward the Head of State and a clear deviation from the responsible conduct expected of a high-ranking public official.

In an interview with iRadio, coalition member Bassirou Dieng emphasized that such language is incompatible with the principles of a rule of law and a functioning democracy. “In a state governed by law, where democratic values are respected, it is unacceptable for a National Assembly President to make disparaging remarks against the Head of State,” he stated. Dieng also highlighted the widespread condemnation of Sonko’s statements, noting that both social media and traditional news outlets have echoed similar sentiments.

“Since his speech yesterday in Mbacké, reactions have flooded social platforms and media channels. Almost no one agrees with his words. Everyone is denouncing the scandalous nature of Ousmane Sonko’s remarks,” he added, urging restraint and responsibility. The coalition member warned that the Diomaye Président alliance will no longer tolerate what it views as repeated attacks on state institutions.

“The coalition will take a firm stance. Going forward, it will no longer be acceptable to overlook disrespectful comments from Ousmane Sonko—not just toward the President of the Republic, but also toward other officials who represent the State,” he declared. This strong response follows the immediate backlash generated by Sonko’s public comments in Mbacké, which have intensified political debates within the presidential majority.
