Escalating adf violence claims over 300 lives in eastern drc this year
Our ongoing investigations reveal that the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) have been responsible for the deaths of over 300 individuals in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) since the beginning of this year. These tragic killings have predominantly occurred across the Ituri and Nord-Kivu provinces. We strongly condemn the horrific assault that transpired overnight on May 30-31 in Ngadi, a village situated near Beni in Nord-Kivu.
During that specific Ngadi incident, Congolese authorities confirmed the brutal killing of 15 civilians and one soldier.
The ADF rebels have intensified their operations in the Beni region, with recent reports indicating over 40 civilian fatalities within a mere three-day span. This surge in violence underscores the persistent threat posed by the group across the area.
For decades, since the mid-1990s, the ADF has established a deeply entrenched and violent presence in eastern DRC, perpetrating atrocities that have claimed thousands of civilian lives. In 2019, the group formally aligned itself with the Islamic State terrorist organization, which now recognizes the ADF as its ‘Central Africa Province’ and has claimed responsibility for a number of their devastating attacks.
