A collective representing the descendants of Serigne Touba has formally filed a complaint against Ousmane Sonko at the Dakar High Court, charging him with damaging the reputation of Touba through controversial statements.

The collective, led by Serigne Modou Maroun Niang and Serigne Mourtalla Bousso, asserts that Sonko’s remarks during the inauguration of his party’s headquarters in Dakar last weekend—where he allegedly claimed “dirty money entered Touba”—have tarnished the sacred city’s moral and spiritual standing. Touba, founded by Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, is built on principles of integrity, diligence, and justice, they emphasize.

What the complaint demands

The legal filing, registered under case number 12562, requests a thorough investigation to verify the legitimacy of Sonko’s claims. The complainants seek:

• Ousmane Sonko’s testimony to clarify his statements and provide supporting evidence;
• A probe into potential defamation, false news dissemination, or other violations under Senegalese law;
• Protection of Touba’s reputation against unfounded allegations.
