Mali and Algeria restore air links and diplomatic ties

In a significant move toward rebuilding bilateral relations, Mali has decided to reappoint its ambassador to Algeria while also reopening its airspace to Algerian flights. The announcement came on Friday, signaling a new phase in cooperation between the two nations.

According to an official statement from Mali’s transitional government, the decision reflects a commitment to strengthening friendship and collaboration with the Algerian Republic. The communiqué highlighted the return of Mali’s ambassador to Algiers as a key step in this process.

Additionally, the statement confirmed that Mali’s airspace is now accessible to both civilian and military aircraft traveling to and from Algeria. This reciprocal gesture follows Algeria’s earlier decision to reopen its own airspace to Malian flights, marking another milestone in the normalization of ties.
