Ousmane Sonko champions public-private partnerships for Senegal’s national parks
Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has issued directives to the ministers overseeing Environment, Tourism, Economy, Planning and Cooperation, and Finance and Budget. These instructions mandate the implementation of all necessary measures to invigorate the administration of Senegal’s invaluable natural heritage.
In close collaboration with COSIVRA, the government aims to establish a modern and sustainable operational framework for the nation’s esteemed national parks and pivotal ecological sites. This fresh strategic direction will harness the power of public-private partnerships (PPPs), forging a synergy between the imperative of biodiversity preservation and the pursuit of economic vibrancy.
Niokolo Koba, Djoudj, Saloum, and Technopole at the core of the attraction strategy
This governmental decree specifically targets Senegal’s most strategic and highly attractive tourist ecosystems. Directly impacted by this rollout of partnerships are the Niokolo-Koba National Park, Hann Park, the Saloum Delta, the Djoudj National Bird Park, alongside the sensitive urban reserves of Technopole de Dakar and Lac Rose.
By entrusting the development and enhancement of these cherished locations to private entities, under stringent state supervision, the government seeks to draw substantial investments, modernize essential visitor infrastructure, and cultivate new revenue streams, all while upholding rigorous protection for these classified natural areas.
