Dakar — Following the Conference of Presidents (CDP) held on Friday, 19 June, the National Assembly of Senegal has set a particularly packed legislative schedule. The bills concerning the Labour Code and the Social Security Code will be examined in committee this Saturday, 20 June, before their passage in plenary session scheduled for Monday, 22 June.

However, the constitutional revision bill is drawing the most attention. The President of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, provided the Bureau members with a detailed update on this text. He informed his colleagues that, to date, he had received no response from President Bassirou Diomaye Faye regarding the mandatory opinion that was formally submitted to him.

Facing this silence from the Executive, the Head of Parliament decided to set a deadline of Monday, 22 June. After that date, regardless of the presidency’s position, the Bureau of the National Assembly will be immediately convened to move forward with the legislative procedure. Ousmane Sonko firmly reiterated his determination to have this constitutional revision proposal examined and voted on before the close of the current ordinary session.

Furthermore, the President of the National Assembly took this opportunity to remind that the Parliament is still awaiting the submission of two major financial texts, already adopted by the Council of Ministers: the draft Amended Finance Law (LFR) and the Budget Orientation Debate (DOB) document. The countdown has now begun between the legislative and executive branches.
