Homosexualité – Ousmane Sonko attaque de nouveau : « Personne ne sera protégé »

Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has once again addressed the potential for stricter laws regarding homosexuality within Sénégal, reinforcing the executive branch’s position on this contentious matter. His comments are part of an ongoing national discourse concerning the enforcement of existing statutes and the government’s broader policy direction.

Speaking about the reach of legislative texts, the head of government underscored their universal nature and consistent application. He explicitly stated: « There will be no question of protecting the big fish because they are the real problems. When a law is passed, it is impersonal and applies in all its rigor. »

Continuing his remarks, Ousmane Sonko suggested that the current situation is partly a consequence of previous administrations’ inaction. He asserted: « This phenomenon is not new; past regimes did not act as we are. If that were the case, the phenomenon would not have reached this level. »

The Prime Minister also touched upon external critiques surrounding this issue, specifically singling out certain Western partners. He declared: « No one is against this law in Sénégal. The only criticisms come from the Occident, France in particular. We have no lessons to receive from them. » Finally, Ousmane Sonko dismissed any notion of pausing the legislative process, affirming: « African intellectuals also attempt to interfere, but there will be no moratorium. »
