Prime minister of Burkina Faso meets with interafrican insurance federation ahead of Ouagadougou conference
The Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, welcomed a delegation from the Inter-African Federation of Insurance Advisors (FIAC) on the morning of June 9, 2026. Led by interim President Vakaramoko Samaké, the delegation outlined critical discussions ahead of the 16th FIAC General Assembly, scheduled for June 10–13, 2026 in Ouagadougou.
Making insurance brokers a cornerstone of financial inclusion
The upcoming annual meeting, themed “The role of insurance brokers in expanding access and boosting penetration rates,” is set to position brokers as key players in fostering financial inclusion across the region. The event will bring together nearly 200 insurance brokers from the 14 member countries of the Inter-African Conference of Insurance Markets (CIMA), along with representatives from Guinea-Conakry and Ghana.
Following the meeting, interim FIAC President Samaké praised the Prime Minister’s personal commitment to supporting the event as its patron. “We highlighted how our profession drives economic growth and job creation across our nations. This assembly marks the start of the transformative shift we aim to achieve,” he stated. “The theme of financial inclusion represents a fresh beginning in how insurance brokers can better serve our communities.”

Government reaffirms support for insurance sector transformation
The Prime Minister lauded Ouagadougou’s selection as the host city for the assembly, calling it “a gesture of solidarity and fraternity toward Burkina Faso.” He addressed concerns about the country’s global perception, emphasizing, “We have chosen a path that invites criticism and stereotypes, yet we remain steadfast. Burkina Faso continues to advance across all sectors, as reflected in our macroeconomic indicators.”
The Prime Minister also underscored the alignment of the assembly’s theme with national priorities. “Insurance brokers play a vital role in every sector today. Even in rural areas, climate insurance is now a topic of discussion,” he noted. “This shows that risks are evolving, and our people deserve basic coverage.”
Reaffirming the government’s dedication to positioning insurance brokers as instruments of resilience, he concluded, “You can be assured of our readiness to collaborate closely and integrate your recommendations into our policies. I urge you to stay united and adapt to the ever-changing landscape.”
The Prime Minister’s meeting with the FIAC delegation underscores the government’s resolve to make the insurance sector a driving force behind Burkina Faso’s economic recovery and long-term resilience.
