N’Djamena: major security sweep nets 252 arrests in anti-crime drive
A significant security operation in N’Djamena resulted in the apprehension of 252 individuals and the confiscation of illicit substances, marking a crucial step in Chad’s capital’s fight against crime.
A joint security commission executed a large-scale sweep this Saturday, August 1, 2026, targeting numerous areas identified as high-crime zones within N’Djamena. This extensive intervention, which brought together various law enforcement agencies and security units—including the National and Nomadic Guard of Chad (GNNT), the National Gendarmerie, the National Police, the Judicial Police, and specialized services—resulted in the arrest of 252 individuals and the confiscation of a range of illegal items and substances.
The operation specifically focused on sectors such as Mandjakoli in the 5th arrondissement, along with Roma, Bildo, and Katanga in the 2nd arrondissement, as well as Colombie and other key neighborhoods across the capital.
According to Hachim Haroum Deby, the Director of Public Security, the raid led to the apprehension of both vendors and consumers of various illicit narcotics. Among the seized products were drugs commonly known as « Colorado » and « Bongo », in addition to quantities of adulterated alcohol.
The mission was carried out under the direct oversight of the Director General of the National Gendarmerie, who also serves as the Deputy President of the Joint Control and Verification Commission. Key participants in the operation also included the 1st Deputy Police Controller General and the 2nd Deputy Commander of the National and Nomadic Guard of Chad (GNNT).
Following the successful intervention, a total of 252 individuals were presented to the press. Security forces also displayed a significant haul of confiscated items, which included weapons, computers, mobile phones, and 25 motorcycles.
The comprehensive report on the operation’s outcome was subsequently submitted to the Minister of Public Security and Immigration, General Ali Ahmat Aghabache.
