Bénin security minister Djibril Mama Cisse bolsters public safety during tour
Minister Djibril Mama Cisse continues his security tour in Bénin, visiting Kandi and Parakou to refine public security strategies and listen to the grievances of law enforcement.
The tour by the Minister of Interior and Public Security, Djibril Mama Cisse, continued on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in the cities of Kandi and Parakou.
The minister and his delegation visited several sites including the Special Multipurpose Intervention Group (GSPI) base in Kandi, the departmental civil protection agency headquarters for Alibori and Borgou, the Republican Police mobile intervention company in Parakou, and the departmental directorate of interior and public security in Parakou. This tour aims to assess ground realities regarding internal security in order to better fine-tune strategies and plans in the public security sector in Bénin.
“I would like my presence here to be interpreted as my willingness to listen. I came to listen to you…,” the minister said as he opened discussions with police officers of all categories and ranks gathered at the special intervention group base in Kandi. In both Parakou and Kandi, the minister encouraged open dialogue so that each person could express the difficulties encountered, the resolution of which by leadership and the government could improve the effectiveness of actions and the efficiency of means.
Among the concerns raised were career management, promotions, the duration of assignments in high-risk areas, lack of motivation, absence or insufficiency of risk allowances, shortage of specialists, and insufficient human resources. Also mentioned were problems related to lack of GSM network coverage in certain localities, sabotage of communication towers, and lack of protection at some police stations.
In response to these grievances, the Director General of the Republican Police, the Secretary General of the ministry, and other delegation members spoke to explain the ongoing projects to address some of the issues raised, the reflections underway, and the possible solutions being considered, particularly those concerning agents’ careers.
Minister Djibril Mama Cisse commended the security forces, on behalf of the government and its head, for their bravery and sense of sacrifice, emphasizing that thanks to them, Beninese people can go about their daily lives in peace and tranquility. “It is thanks to you that the Republic stands,” he stated.
“I did not come to make promises. But we must meet the challenges,” he continued. Djibril Mama Cisse therefore calls on all components of the public security forces to fully commit themselves. Resolving the issues raised will be the government’s priority so that Bénin remains safe and continues its development without hindrance.
