Rabat hosts celebration of 65 years of Morocco-vietnam diplomatic ties
A special day of festivities marked the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Vietnam on Friday in Rabat. The event was organised by the Vietnamese embassy in the kingdom, in cooperation with the High Commission for Former Resistance Fighters and Former Members of the Liberation Army.
During the celebrations, a themed exhibition titled “President Ho Chi Minh – Symbol of Peace and International Friendship” was inaugurated. Open until 26 June, the exhibition highlights the journey of Vietnam’s national liberation hero, whose actions were driven by ideals of peace, independence, and cooperation among nations.
The event, held in partnership with the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association and the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Site under Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, also featured a seminar focused on opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation in diplomatic, economic, academic, cultural, and human fields.
Speaking at the opening, Mustapha El Ktiri, High Commissioner for Former Resistance Fighters and Former Members of the Liberation Army, emphasised the historical and strategic significance of Morocco-Vietnam relations. He noted that this celebration “embodies the meeting of two peoples whose historical paths, forged through trials and guided by a shared ideal of freedom, converge in a community of values and destiny.”
Mr El Ktiri, who also heads the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association, recalled symbols of their shared memory, including the inauguration in 2022 of the Vietnam Gate in Kenitra—”a mirror response to the Morocco Gate in Ba Vi, two twin monuments that span continents and generations.”
On her part, Le Kim Quy, ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Morocco, praised the positive and concrete evolution of bilateral relations. She pointed to the intensification of high-level meetings and visits on both sides in recent years, reflecting mutual trust and a shared commitment to deepening this strategic partnership.
The economic dimension has also seen remarkable growth, with bilateral trade reaching 390 million dollars in 2025, the Vietnamese diplomat noted. She added that this virtuous dynamic extends to education, cultural exchanges, and decentralised cooperation between local authorities in both countries.
The celebration day also saw the inauguration of the Ho Chi Minh Library, which contains books in French, English, and Arabic—a donation from the Vietnamese leader’s memorial site to the High Commission for Former Resistance Fighters and Former Members of the Liberation Army.
