senegalese prime minister’s advisor quits after sonko’s departure

Ousmane Sonko, de retour sur la scène politique : « Rendez-vous le 8 novembre »

In a move driven by personal conviction, Senegalese health policy advisor Dr Bacary Thior has tendered his resignation from the Prime Minister’s Office following Ousmane Sonko’s departure from the premiership. In his farewell statement, he reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to public service while pledging continued support for Mr Sonko, leader of the Pastef party.

Dr Bacary Thior’s resignation comes immediately after Ousmane Sonko concluded his term as Prime Minister, a position he held until recently.

In a statement released on Thursday, the former Technical Advisor on Health Affairs explained that his decision was guided by his core principles. He emphasized that resigning was not a rejection of public service but rather an adherence to his personal ethical standards.

Why Dr Bacary Thior decided to leave

“Following the end of Mr Ousmane Sonko’s tenure as Prime Minister, I have chosen to step down from the Prime Minister’s Office, guided strictly by my principles,” he stated in his announcement.

Despite leaving his official role, Dr Thior made it clear that his commitment to the nation remains unshaken. He expressed readiness to serve wherever his expertise is needed and reiterated his ongoing support for Ousmane Sonko, who currently leads the Pastef party and serves as President of the National Assembly.

In his closing remarks, he extended gratitude to his colleagues, acknowledged any shortcomings during his service, and offered his forgiveness for any inconveniences caused.
