The 85th session of the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary Union (UPA) provided a platform for key discussions on the continent’s future. During the event, Ousmane Sonko, President of the National Assembly, met with Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge, Chair of the UPA’s Executive Committee, to explore ways to enhance the institution’s effectiveness.

The meeting, held on June 4, centered on the UPA’s operational framework, strategic priorities, and challenges facing Africa. Sonko emphasized the need for structural reforms to bolster the union’s influence in shaping continental policies. He advocated for a streamlined decision-making process that aligns more closely with the African Union’s objectives, ensuring greater synergy among African institutions.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of institutional cohesion across the continent. By improving coordination between the UPA and other key organizations, African nations could amplify their collective impact on governance and development. Sonko stressed that such reforms would strengthen the union’s ability to address pressing issues through unified action.
