Strengthening the bond: France-Morocco ties highlighted at rabats national day event

France and Morocco deepen strategic partnership at Rabat National Day celebration

The French Embassy in Morocco hosted a grand reception in Rabat on July 14 to mark France’s National Day, drawing over 1,500 attendees. French Ambassador Philippe Lalliot used the occasion to highlight the robust and forward-looking bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

During his address, Ambassador Lalliot emphasized that the partnership between France and Morocco is not merely aspirational but actively shaping the future. He pointed out, “From Rabat to Casablanca, Tangier, Marrakech, and Laâyoune, where I recently inaugurated the city’s first Alliance Française, we don’t just discuss tomorrow—we build it, day by day.”

France reaffirms support for Morocco’s sovereignty and shared priorities

In his speech, Ambassador Lalliot underscored the depth of the strategic alliance, referencing President Emmanuel Macron’s July 2024 letter to King Mohammed VI. In that correspondence, France explicitly acknowledged that the future of the Sahara falls within the framework of Morocco’s sovereignty. Lalliot stated, “The French and Moroccan diplomatic corps are united in promoting the fundamental principles that underpin international order and multilateral organizations.”

He also highlighted France’s role as Morocco’s top foreign investor and employer, noting that French enterprises have played a pivotal role in driving Morocco’s industrial growth for over a decade. Looking ahead, he outlined key areas of collaboration, including addressing global challenges, enhancing security, and fostering economic sectors that will shape both countries’ futures.

Three pillars of future-focused cooperation

Ambassador Lalliot outlined three core priorities for the partnership:

  • Joint solutions for international challenges and collective security enhancement;
  • Economic synergies to shape tomorrow’s industries and markets;
  • People-to-people connections, particularly among the youth who represent the future of Franco-Moroccan relations.

The Ambassador concluded by celebrating the enduring human bonds between the French and Moroccan peoples, which thrive through the vitality of their respective diaspora communities.
