Togo power sector shakeup as ceet director general dismissed
The leadership of Togo’s national electricity provider, the Compagnie Énergie Électrique du Togo (CEET), has undergone a significant change. General Director Débo-K’mba Barandao has been removed from his position, effective immediately.
While no official statement has been issued regarding the reasons for his dismissal, the move comes at a time when the CEET continues to grapple with persistent challenges in electricity supply and service quality across the country.
Reforms and restructuring under Barandao
Appointed in March 2022, Barandao was tasked with implementing sweeping reforms to improve both the organizational and operational efficiency of the public utility. During his tenure, several restructuring initiatives were launched to address longstanding inefficiencies within the company.
Persistent challenges in Togo’s energy sector
As a cornerstone of Togo’s energy infrastructure, the CEET has faced recurring issues, including frequent power outages and the urgent need for modernized facilities. These ongoing difficulties have underscored the necessity for decisive leadership and strategic interventions.
Looking ahead: succession and continuity
At present, no details have been disclosed about the appointment of a new director general. However, authorities have indicated that a successor will be named in the coming days to ensure seamless operations and maintain service reliability throughout the transition.
