Togo’s industrial future: president gnassingbé and afreximbank explore investment avenues
President Faure Gnassingbé of Togo recently hosted Dr. George Elombi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Afreximbank, in Lomé. Their discussions centered on strengthening the existing partnership between Togo and the prominent pan-African financial institution, while also exploring significant investment prospects across various strategic sectors.
During their high-level meeting, the two leaders delved into multiple strategies aimed at accelerating the industrial transformation of Togo’s indigenous resources. Key areas of focus included the nation’s vital phosphate industry, the generation of energy to power burgeoning industrial zones, and innovative mechanisms for enhancing the value of African raw materials.
Dr. George Elombi shared insights into the productive dialogue, stating, “We engaged in discussions regarding wealth creation through the processing of Togolese primary products. Our conversations specifically touched upon phosphate, energy production for industrial areas, and other critical aspects related to the transformation of raw materials across African countries.”
The Afreximbank official further reiterated his institution’s unwavering commitment to assisting Togo in securing crucial financing and technical partners. This support is vital for driving the country’s ambitious industrial development projects forward.
Dr. George Elombi’s visit to Lomé coincided with the 3rd edition of the Biashara Afrika business forum, an event co-organized by the Togolese government and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
This significant meeting underscores Togo’s increasing appeal to global investors and financial partners. It also clearly demonstrates the Togolese authorities’ steadfast commitment to fostering local natural resource transformation as a primary catalyst for economic growth and value creation across the African continent.
