Unrest flares in Bordeaux and Paris after PSG’s champions league final

Numerous arrests were made in Paris following the capital club’s Champions League triumph. Tensions also erupted in Bordeaux and Agen.

With an unprecedented deployment of 22,000 police and gendarmes across France, including 8,000 specifically for Paris and its metropolitan area, law enforcement authorities had prepared an extraordinary security operation. This extensive plan was put in place ahead of the Paris Saint-Germain’s potential victory (or even defeat) in the Champions League final on the evening of Saturday, May 30. Already by early afternoon, as approximately 20,000 individuals gathered at the Parc des Princes for a public broadcast of the match, initial skirmishes had broken out between security forces and certain “supporters” near the stadium, leading to an immediate 20 arrests.
