American citizens should anticipate potential disruptions and delays in their movements, particularly on routes leading to Modibo Keita International Airport and within various city districts, as security measures have been significantly reinforced.

Embassy officials indicated that Malian authorities have augmented their security presence throughout Bamako. This includes the establishment of additional checkpoints, the deployment of roadblocks, and the possibility of temporary road closures, all of which are expected to impact traffic flow and daily commutes.

These intensified security protocols are believed to coincide with increased safety concerns during upcoming religious observances, such as Eid al-Adha (Tabaski), which is anticipated around May 27. Consequently, the embassy advises its citizens to restrict non-essential travel until the end of the current month.

The guidelines further instruct American citizens to steer clear of areas known for gatherings or demonstrations, and under no circumstances attempt to bypass security barriers. Maintaining awareness of one’s surroundings and exercising extreme caution during any travel within the country are paramount recommendations.

Additionally, the embassy has advised individuals to regularly review their personal security strategies, ensure effective communication channels are maintained, keep all travel documents current and readily accessible, and develop comprehensive emergency plans, including identifying safe havens should the need arise.
