Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb arrived in Niamey this Wednesday for an official visit aimed at bolstering cooperation between Algeria and Niger. This significant mission, undertaken at the directive of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, underscores both nations’ commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership across various sectors.

The Algerian delegation included the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, alongside the Director-General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development.

Initial discussions between the two Prime Ministers focused on the current state of bilateral relations and explored avenues to broaden cooperation in mutually beneficial areas. These talks specifically sought to inject fresh momentum into development projects and partnership initiatives between Alger and Niamey.

A significant highlight of this visit will be the inauguration of a 40-megawatt power plant located in the Gorou Banda area of Niamey. This project, a direct outcome of Algerian-Nigerien cooperation, represents a generous gift from Algeria to Niger, aligning with ongoing efforts to bolster the neighboring nation’s energy infrastructure development.

This new facility is expected to significantly enhance Niger’s electricity production capabilities and improve energy supply to various parts of the capital. It further exemplifies Algeria’s deep commitment to fostering development and stability across the Sahel-Saharan region.
