Chad authorities halt sales of four unsafe yoghurt brands in N’Djamena
Chad’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued an urgent directive to halt the distribution of four yoghurt brands produced in N’Djamena after routine quality checks uncovered serious health violations.
The order, signed by Minister Dr Guibolo Fanga Mathieu, follows a week-long inspection by the National Food Quality Control Centre (CECOQDA) from 1 to 5 June 2026. Inspectors found multiple breaches in hygiene, storage, and safety protocols, as well as unacceptable microbiological and physicochemical standards in sampled products.
Immediate market withdrawal for non-compliant brands
Four local manufacturers have been named for failing to meet health regulations: Tami Yaourt, Alkhiza Yaourt, Lazza Yaourt, and Yaourt Gamar. The ministry has demanded an immediate recall of all affected batches and a temporary suspension of sales until further notice.
Producers urged to upgrade safety standards
The government has instructed the four companies to fully implement CECOQDA’s corrective measures and align their production processes with national food safety norms. Failure to comply may result in stricter penalties or permanent market exclusion.
Nationwide inspection campaign to expand
In response to the findings, authorities announced that similar unannounced checks will now cover all food production and retail facilities across Chad. The public has been advised to avoid purchasing or consuming products from the identified brands and to report any suspicious items to local health officials.
