Côte d’Ivoire Prepares Linguistic Policy to Value National Languages

The Côte d’Ivoire is preparing a linguistic policy to value national languages within its education system.

A presentation of the results of a research and pre-validation project was held in Grand-Bassam from July 10-12, 2026. The event was presided over by the Minister of National Education, Alphabétisation, and Technical Education, N’Guessan KOFFI.


Importance of linguistic policy

The director of Adult Literacy and Education (DAAJE), MAH Louhan Mamadou, emphasized the importance of promoting national languages, which he considers a key factor in development.

‘The Côte d’Ivoire has a remarkable linguistic diversity that constitutes a cultural heritage to be preserved,’ he said. ‘This is where the policy on linguistic education comes in, aiming to improve the quality of education.’
