Chad police arrest 29 suspects in N’Djamena crackdown
The National Police of Chad has unveiled the arrests of 29 suspected criminals during recent operations in N’Djamena, following a series of coordinated security measures.
Unified operations lead to multiple arrests
On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the Directorate General of National Police presented the suspects, who were detained between May 15 and June 1, 2026. These operations involved several specialized units, including the Intelligence Cell, Public Security Commissariats, Central Investigations Directorate, and the Ngueli Border Police Post.
General Controller Mahamat Idriss Mahamat confirmed that the crackdown targeted a range of criminal activities, ensuring a thorough investigation into each case.
Charges span multiple serious offenses
The suspects face allegations including arms trafficking, criminal conspiracy, aggravated theft, armed robbery, vehicle break-ins, and illegal entry of foreigners into the country.
Following formal interrogations, the accused were categorized into four distinct groups based on the severity and nature of their alleged crimes.
Key cases highlighted by authorities
- Criminal conspiracy and armed robbery: Suspects allegedly planned and executed multiple armed robberies across the capital.
- Motorcycle theft with accomplices: Some were caught in the act, while others were identified as accessories to these crimes.
- Theft of valuables: Cases include stolen computers, mobile phones, gold, carpets, blankets, and aluminum sheets.
- Vehicle break-ins: Several suspects were apprehended during these offenses, with some still in possession of stolen goods.
The Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining public safety and urged citizens to remain vigilant while supporting law enforcement efforts.
