With Chad’s 66th independence anniversary approaching on August 11, 2026, Pahimi Padacké Albert, who leads the National Rally of Chadian Democrats (RNDT-Le Réveil) and serves as the opposition’s principal figure, has issued a fervent plea for unity, calm, and national reconciliation.

In his address marking this significant national holiday, the former Prime Minister conveyed his message to the Chadian people with profound humility, gravity, and a sense of responsibility.

Pahimi Padacké Albert highlighted that this year’s commemoration unfolds against a backdrop of pronounced political tensions and deep-seated frustrations. “We celebrate our freedom this year within a prevailing atmosphere of silent yet heavy political strain, exacerbated by pervasive feelings of multi-faceted exclusion,” he stated.

Faced with this challenging situation, the RNDT-Le Réveil leader advocated strongly for enhanced dialogue and greater political openness. “Today, I once again responsibly appeal for unity, for appeasement, for a spirit of openness, and for the reconciliation of hearts,” he continued.

In his message, Pahimi Padacké Albert directed his appeal specifically to the President of the Republic, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, urging him to implement measures that would significantly bolster national cohesion.

“On the eve of this national observance, I solemnly call upon all Chadians, and foremost among them, the Marshal of Chad, President of the Republic, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno: May powerful decisions be enacted to overcome feelings of exclusion, drawing our people closer together within the unity of the Chadian family. May the constitutional powers at the Head of State’s disposal be mobilized to restore freedom to political figures whose rightful place is not behind bars. May genuine political openness, founded upon candid, fraternal, and patriotic discussions, solidify this drive towards appeasement, all while honoring the rich political, cultural, and religious diversity of the nation’s sons and daughters,” he declared.
