Dakar court adjourns Sonko-Niang villa dispute to 2026
The civil lawsuit between former minister Mame Mbaye Niang and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko over ownership of a villa in the Keur Gorgui district has been postponed. The third civil chamber of the Dakar regional court set the new hearing date for 22 July 2026.
Mame Mbaye Niang, who previously served as minister, summoned the PASTEF leader to civil court seeking the annulment of what he claims was a fraudulent transfer of ownership of his 264-square-metre villa (lot R/17) in Keur Gorgui. The case was called for a hearing on Wednesday, 10 June.
The former tourism minister demands that the property be re-registered in his name. This would allow him to recover the 200 million CFA francs in damages and interest that the judiciary definitively awarded him following the criminal proceedings that concluded before the Supreme Court.
Lawyers for the plaintiff argue that the transfer of the leasehold rights to the villa into the name of the former prime minister’s family constitutes “a deliberate manoeuvre to organise Ousmane Sonko’s insolvency and to place the asset beyond the reach of any seizure.” The case, which had already been adjourned once, now awaits a ruling on the merits after Niang’s legal team files its responses to the arguments submitted by Sonko’s defence counsel.
