Dakar’s vibrant march: ousmane sonko rallies supporters
Marche de Dakar : Ousmane Sonko accueilli par des centaines de partisans en liesse

Senegal’s Prime Minister and influential leader of the Pastef party, Ousmane Sonko, was met with a jubilant reception from hundreds of dedicated supporters this Sunday, May 17. The occasion was a significant “pedestrian rally” orchestrated by the local departmental coordination of his political movement.

Clad entirely in white, the Prime Minister was first greeted by an ecstatic crowd, whose cheers frequently morphed into chants of “Sonko Président!” Following this vibrant welcome, he immersed himself in a public walkabout, engaging directly with the enthusiastic masses. Several prominent figures from the party joined the demonstration, including Dakar’s Mayor, Abass Fall, and the Minister of Higher Education, Daouda Ngom. The procession commenced at the iconic Place de la Nation and was set to conclude at the Rond-point Jet d’eau.

This particular rally was themed “Dakar marching behind the Pros,” aiming to achieve several objectives. Among these were the celebration of robust citizen participation and peaceful collective action, alongside efforts to solidify unity around the political vision championed by Ousmane Sonko. This event holds particular significance as the party actively prepares for the elective congress of its president, scheduled for June 6, 2026.
