It is now official: Ewen Jaouen has left Stade de Reims. The club from Champagne confirmed on Wednesday, June 10, that the 20-year-old goalkeeper has been transferred to Newcastle United, a Premier League side. Jaouen first joined the Rouge et Blanc three years ago. This move places him among the top 15 most valuable goalkeepers in football history.

After several loan spells, Jaouen delivered an outstanding first full season with Stade de Reims this year. Recording 15 clean sheets, he achieved the best performance across Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 this season. The club described him as “one of the most promising last lines of defence in French football.” Making his debut for the France under-21 side this year, the young Breton “impresses with his reflex saves, calmness on the ball, and great maturity.”

A commitment to young footballers in the Marne

Stade de Reims placed their trust in him back in 2023. After the first half of the season with the Pro 2 group, he was loaned out several times, notably to Rodez. At Rodez, at just 18, he became the youngest starting goalkeeper in the top five European leagues and their second divisions. The following season, he moved to Dunkerque, where the team reached the semifinals of the Coupe de France.

Beyond his on-field role, Ewen Jaouen was deeply involved with young players from AS Gueux, training them several times a week. Whenever his schedule allowed, he also accompanied them to matches across the department on weekends. Just before his departure, the children came to spend a final moment with him at the Raymond Kopa training centre.
