president goïta initiates massive 15-hospital construction in Mali!

Bamako, November 10, 2025. General Assimi Goïta, the Transitional President, officially inaugurated the Presidential Emergency Hospital Project by laying its cornerstone. This pivotal event, held at the Korofina Reference Health Centre in Bamako’s Commune I, signals the commencement of an ambitious initiative designed to significantly upgrade Mali’s national healthcare infrastructure.

Colonel-Major Assa Badiallo Touré, the Minister of Health and Social Development, highlighted that this undertaking follows directly from the December 2024 General Estates of Health. These crucial discussions had previously pinpointed the urgent need to enhance healthcare accessibility and elevate the standard of medical services across the entire nation.

transforming Mali’s national hospital system

The Minister elaborated that this initiative is set to bring about a substantial “modernization and restructuring” of the hospital network. Key components include constructing 15 state-of-the-art hospitals and converting existing Reference Health Centers (CSREF) within the Bamako district into fully-fledged District Hospitals. These extensive works, entirely supported by the national budget, are projected to conclude within 12 months for facilities in Bamako and 24 months for those located in regional areas.

The Presidential Emergency Hospital Project encompasses three primary strategic components:

  1. Conversion of Reference Health Centers (CSREF) across Bamako’s seven arrondissements into modern district hospitals.
  2. Establishment of new district hospitals in Bla and Kangaba.
  3. Development of advanced regional hospitals in key locations such as San, Koutiala, Bougouni, Dioïla, Nioro, Bandiagara, and Koulikoro.

These forthcoming medical facilities will be outfitted with cutting-edge medical equipment, boast significantly expanded hospitalization capacities, and offer specialized services. Notably, this includes dedicated hemodialysis units within the hospitals located in Bamako’s 1st and 6th arrondissements.

project priorities and oversight

Concluding the ceremony, the Transitional President reiterated that robust health is a fundamental pillar for national development. He urged the Minister of Health to ensure uninterrupted public services throughout the construction phases and to strictly adhere to contractual timelines. President Goïta further emphasized the profound human objective of this initiative: to bring high-quality medical care closer to all citizens, diminish the necessity for medical evacuations, and alleviate the strain on current healthcare facilities.
