Strong diplomatic ties between Gabon and Mauritania were further strengthened during a high-level meeting in Libreville. The Gabonese Head of State, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, received an envoy from Mauritania’s President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, highlighting the depth of bilateral relations built on shared values.

Messouda Bahama Mohamed Laghdaf, Mauritania’s Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, conveyed her country’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Gabon. The discussions underscored a long-standing partnership rooted in solidarity, mutual respect, and joint efforts to address regional challenges.

During the meeting, the Mauritanian delegation formally presented Mauritania’s candidacy for the Secretary-General position at the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF). Led by Dr. Koumba Ba, the bid emphasizes three core pillars: coherence, balance, and tangible benefits for OIF member states. This strategic vision aims to enhance the Francophonie’s impact and relevance across French-speaking nations.

The Gabonese President reaffirmed his country’s support for consensus-based governance and collaborative decision-making, principles that guide Gabon’s continental diplomacy.
