Motazé tells CEMAC capital markets: deepen financing now

Louis Paul Motazé opened the first Diamond Capital Convention in Douala on September 24, 2026, with a blunt message: Cameroon and the CEMAC region need deeper, more dynamic capital markets to fund businesses, infrastructure and economic transformation.
Finance Minister Louis Paul Motazé chaired the opening of the inaugural Diamond Capital Convention in Douala on September 24, 2026. The gathering brought together public authorities, investors, financial institutions, companies, regulators and other market players to tackle the challenges of financing the real economy.
In his opening address, the minister urged financial ecosystem stakeholders to step up capital mobilization for productive sectors. Participants at the Douala event exchanged views on how to channel more capital toward the real economy.
Motazé stressed the need for a deeper, more dynamic and more attractive financial market capable of supporting companies, infrastructure and major economic transformation projects in Cameroon and the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC).
Better capital allocation is the goal
In his speech, the finance minister highlighted the importance of strengthening the market’s capacity to mobilize resources for the real economy. The aim is to steer capital toward businesses, infrastructure and high-growth sectors.
This push targets industrialization, local processing of raw materials, infrastructure, energy and digital technology — sectors that can drive value creation, economic activity and jobs.
Savings mobilization: a second key challenge
For Motazé, developing the capital market also requires diversifying financing instruments and building closer links between project promoters’ needs and investors’ available resources. The goal is to create more bridges between capital and projects that can transform economies sustainably.
Trust also plays a central role in this dynamic. It depends on effective regulation, transparency, quality financial information, good governance and investor protection.
Mobilizing savings is another major issue. Developing an accessible, credible financial market should gradually strengthen the participation of economic actors and the public in financing productive activity.
Through this first Diamond Capital Convention, participants are called to produce concrete solutions to boost financing for Cameroon’s and the community’s economies, support productive investment and accompany economic transformation.
For Cameroon and CEMAC, the challenge is to turn capital markets into a genuine development lever by converting available financial resources into productive investments, infrastructure, competitive businesses and jobs.
