Nantes sanctioned for fan misconduct in final Ligue 1 clash with Toulouse

FC Nantes faces first home game in Ligue 2 without supporters after suspension following last match’s incidents.

The Ligue de football professionnel’s disciplinary committee has officially confirmed the 0-0 score from Nantes’ final Ligue 1 match against Toulouse, which was abandoned due to supporter disturbances. The Canaris, who have been relegated to Ligue 2, have also been handed down additional sanctions including a closed-door match and a two-game suspension for their Loire stand.

The disciplinary body stated: “After reviewing the investigation report, the committee has officially ratified the score as it stood when the match was definitively abandoned (0-0). Furthermore, the following sanctions are imposed: one closed-door match at the Beaujoire stadium, followed by a two-game suspension for the Loire stand.”

On May 17, during Nantes’ final home game of the season against Toulouse, the match was abandoned following incidents in the Loire stand. The disturbances began with smoke bomb launches and pitch invasions by Nantes supporters, prompting a police response. Referee Stéphanie Frappart subsequently declared the match abandoned “due to prefectural order for safety reasons.” With their relegation confirmed, the Canaris will now begin their Ligue 2 campaign with the first home game played behind closed doors.
