Ndiaga Seck arrest fuels controversy over Sonko legitimacy

The detention of political figure Ndiaga Seck has sparked heated debates across public platforms. Charged with alleged « acts against nature, » he was formally indicted by a Louga-based investigating judge on Monday and subsequently remanded in custody.

In this charged atmosphere, social media users and certain online publications have attempted to draw a direct connection between Seck’s case and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. This narrative has been firmly rejected by Babacar Ba, Chair of the Forum of Rights Advocates.

Accusations of deliberate smear tactics

Babacar Ba has condemned what he describes as a coordinated effort to undermine Sonko’s reputation. « As Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko represents government institutions, » Ba argued in a public statement. « It is unacceptable to tarnish his image or undermine his credibility through baseless associations. »

Ba stressed that Seck’s arrest on unproven charges « cannot serve as justification to link his name or image to Ousmane Sonko with the intent to discredit him. » He warned that such tactics violate core principles of a law-governed state and must be firmly opposed.
