Norwegian minister’s visit to Senegal strengthens bilateral ties

Norway’s Minister of International Development, His Excellency Åsmund Aukrust, concluded a two-day official visit to Dakar on May 4, 2026, reinforcing long-standing diplomatic relations with Senegal.

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dakar hosted a landmark visit by Åsmund Aukrust, Norway’s Minister of International Development, as part of an official tour of Senegal on May 3–4, 2026. This engagement underscores Norway’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and fostering dialogue with West Africa’s key partner.

During his stay, Minister Aukrust held high-level discussions with Senegal’s Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, Cheikh Niang, the Minister of Environment and Ecological Transition, Elhadj Abdourahmane Diouf, the Minister of Economy, Planning and International Cooperation, Abdourahmane Sarr, and the President of the National Assembly, El Malick Ndiaye.

These strategic meetings addressed pressing regional challenges, including Sahel security dynamics and sustainable development priorities. The talks also explored global initiatives such as the UN80 Agenda, highlighting shared priorities in multilateral cooperation.

The visit reaffirmed both nations’ dedication to strengthening partnerships across critical sectors, with Senegal recognized as a stable democracy and a pivotal force for regional peacebuilding and cooperation.
