Ousmane Sonko convenes Pastef leadership for strategic restructuring and national congress preparations

With the party’s inaugural national congress less than three weeks away, the Pastef high command gathered on Friday, May 15, at Cité Keur Gorgui, the residence of their esteemed leader, Ousmane Sonko. The pivotal meeting aimed to steer the party towards its most significant structural evolution. Around the table, key figures and foundational members of the party, including El Malick Ndiaye, Birame Souleye Diop, Yassine Fall, Daouda Ngom, and Ayib Daffé, were all present.

The agenda for the day was entirely shaped by the political imperatives of the coming weeks. Discussions primarily focused on the logistical and political dimensions of the national congress, which is firmly set for June 6, 2026. While the precise venue remains to be finalized, Diamniadio emerged as a strong potential location for this landmark event.

Sonko expressed his profound commitment to the success of the congress, viewing it as paramount. The Pastef leader emphasized his desire to demonstrate the enduring strength of the party’s political influence. “We must ensure the congress is a success and fully re-energize the party,” he conveyed to his closest associates. Beyond the immediate focus on the congress, Ousmane Sonko extensively highlighted the critical need to restructure Pastef, aiming for enhanced clarity and operational efficiency.

The leader of the Patriots also addressed the vital issue of grassroots mobilization. He insisted on the imperative of actively engaging with communities across the nation, reaching even the most remote areas. Following the conclusion of the meeting, El Malick Ndiaye, a prominent Pastef official and President of the National Assembly, shared on his Facebook page that “beyond the challenges, promising prospects are emerging for our nation and our collective vision. These prospects, laden with hope, progress, and sovereignty, are what we will continue to build together, with unwavering faith, discipline, and commitment.”
