The esteemed leader of Pastef, Ousmane Sonko, publicly addressed former minister Maimouna Dièye following remarks she made during the official launch of the party’s membership card sales campaign. The event was held this Saturday in Khombole.

While speaking to party activists, Maimouna Dièye had declared, “I am delighted to be here today, and especially, to express myself in the presence of Seydina Ousmane Sonko Salalahou Aleyhi Wa Salam.” This particular formulation immediately prompted a reaction from the Pastef chairman.

Taking the podium in turn, Ousmane Sonko promptly disavowed the religious reference, asserting that it should under no circumstances be linked to his person.

“The profound affection that our people bestow upon me can, at times, lead some individuals to an excessive degree. My sister Maimouna Dièye, speaking earlier, uttered my name and appended ‘Salalahou Aleyhi Wa Salam.’ I must restrain myself,” he stated before the assembly.

The Pastef leader subsequently reminded the audience that this specific invocation is reserved exclusively for Prophet Mohammed.

“Let us reserve this sacred epithet for Prophet Mohammad. For I have never attained such a revered status, and I never will,” Ousmane Sonko emphatically stressed, receiving widespread applause from the numerous militants present.

This precise clarification occurs amidst the Pastef leader’s ongoing national tour, which is focused on the campaign for the sale of his party’s membership cards. After his visit to Khombole, Sonko is scheduled to continue his political mobilization efforts in Bargny, Bambey, and Sébikhotane.
