Ousmane sonko warns against delaying Senegal’s local elections
During his investiture rally this Sunday at the Dakar Arena, Ousmane Sonko addressed the critical issue of the upcoming local elections, clearly articulating his position on any potential postponement of the vote.
Addressing a vast assembly of PASTEF members and prominent leaders, the party chief unequivocally declared that his political organization would not endorse any initiative aimed at delaying the elections. “PASTEF will not agree to a postponement of the local elections. We are ready,” he announced, drawing enthusiastic applause from his supporters.
Continuing his address, Ousmane Sonko emphasized that, in his view, any decision to postpone elections in Senegal must strictly adhere to the institutional frameworks outlined by law. “A postponement of an election is not possible in Senegal without passage through the National Assembly,” he asserted, while simultaneously urging relevant officials to commence the necessary procedures for the timely conduct of the election.
The leader of PASTEF also appeared to respond to ongoing speculation concerning the electoral calendar. “Let the president sign the decree; slowness will not save,” he stated, signaling an urgency for action.
