PSG’s russian connection: Luis Campos targets two new talents after Safonov deal
The summer transfer window of 2024 marked a bold move by Paris Saint-Germain with the acquisition of Matvey Safonov. The Russian goalkeeper, purchased for a reported €20 million from Krasnodar, has already begun reshaping the team’s dynamics. Initially positioned as backup to Gianluigi Donnarumma, Safonov’s impressive performances have shifted the balance, pushing Lucas Chevalier into a secondary role despite his €55 million price tag. Unless an injury occurs, the 29-year-old Russian is set to start in goal when PSG face Arsenal in the Champions League final on 30 May.
Luis Campos turns focus to young Russian prospects
The success of Safonov’s transfer has opened new doors for Sporting Director Luis Campos. His team is now actively exploring additional opportunities in the Russian football market. Among the targets is Aleksey Batrakov, a dynamic 20-year-old attacking midfielder whose standout season for Lokomotiv Moscow—17 goals and 12 assists in 35 appearances—has caught the eye in Paris. Campos has reportedly dispatched representatives to Moscow to initiate talks with the club and player representatives. « Negotiations are underway, with Campos or one of his close associates expected to visit the Russian capital soon, » revealed Vladimir Kuzmichev, Batrakov’s agent.
Kislyak emerges as second potential signing
Another young talent under consideration is Matvey Kislyak, a 20-year-old midfielder from CSKA Moscow. His technical profile and tactical versatility align closely with the style favored by Manager Luis Enrique. Kislyak, capped nine times for Russia and already scoring six goals while providing six assists in 28 league appearances this season, could provide a high-value alternative should the club opt to part with Lee Kang-In. With his contract running until 2029, a move to Paris would require careful negotiation, but his potential makes him a compelling asset in Campos’ recruitment strategy.
