Mabouba Diagne, who serves as the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Livestock, formally submitted a complaint alleging defamation and the propagation of false news to the public prosecutor at the High Court of Dakar. The official filing of this request has been duly recorded by the prosecutor’s office under reference number 8815.

The minister’s specific accusations

The minister’s grievance stems from various media publications that allegedly linked him to financial anomalies identified in a Court of Accounts report concerning the management of subsidized agricultural equipment. These disputed articles reportedly began circulating on Friday, May 15, 2026.

According to the complaint submitted by his legal counsel, Me Khadim Kébé, certain press outlets are accused of disseminating information derived from a provisional 2025 Court of Accounts report. This report highlighted irregularities within the program’s management, and these publications directly implicated the minister in the disclosed issues.

Minister Diagne maintains that some of these reports deliberately fostered confusion, either by featuring his image prominently alongside the articles or by implying his personal involvement in the events discussed.

Mabouba Diagne’s defense

Mabouba Diagne firmly asserts that these publications lack any verifiable evidence to substantiate his involvement in any financial misconduct. He further clarifies that the agreements pertaining to the subsidized agricultural equipment, established with the Banque Agricole, were finalized prior to his assumption of ministerial duties.

He emphasizes that the provisional Court of Accounts report does not explicitly name him as being responsible for or complicit in any financial irregularities.

Believing his reputation has been unjustly tarnished, the minister has decided to pursue legal action against those responsible for the publications and any other individuals involved, citing articles 255 and 258 of the Penal Code, which address defamation and the dissemination of false news.
