Senegal parliament elects Ousmane Sonko as new president
Just four days after being dismissed as Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko has been elected President of Senegal’s National Assembly this Tuesday.

Leader of the African Patriots of Senegal for Work, Ethics and Fraternity (PASTEF) party, which currently holds power, Sonko secured 132 votes out of 133 cast. He takes over from El Malick Ndiaye, who resigned from his position last Sunday.
On Monday evening, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye appointed Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô as the new Prime Minister. Lô previously served as Minister in charge of monitoring, guiding, and evaluating the ‘National Transformation Program of Senegal 2050’ within the presidency, before taking on the role of Secretary-General of the Government of Senegal.
