Senegal U17 Squad for Morocco 2026 CAN: Lamine Sané Names His 23 Lionceaux

Head coach of Senegal’s under-17 national team, Lamine Sané, has announced the final squad of 23 players for the upcoming CAF U17 Nations Cup 2026, hosted by Morocco from May 13 to June 2, 2026.

The experienced coach has prioritized continuity and regional exposure, selecting several players who have already competed in continental and West African tournaments. The defensive backbone includes Cheikh Thior (Oslo FA), making his CAN debut after featuring in the UFOA U17 tournament in Bamako, and Cheikh Dieng (Diambars FC), a key figure from the previous edition and UFOA U17 champion in Mali.

The goalkeeper trio is led by Assane Sarr (Ndangane FC), returning to Morocco after his participation in the last edition. He is joined by Daouda Alassane Ba (Génération Foot) and Mamadou D. Gueye (Diambars FC). The defensive line is further strengthened by Amadou Bamba Kane, Thierno Sow, Cheikh Tidiane Diallo (United Académie), Lamine Mbengue (Génération Foot), and Abdourahmane Dieye (Keur Madior FC).

Midfielders with regional experience

The midfield features seasoned campaigners like Mahamet Ba and Souleymane C. Faye (both from Diambars FC), winners of the UFOA U17 tournament in Mali. They will be supported by Maurice Biaye (AF Darou Salam), Emile Niaga Sadio (Essamaye FC), El Hadji Ibrahima Sow (Dakar Sacré-Cœur), and Sébastien Nogueira (Génération Foot).

Attacking lineup with a standout leader

The forward line is anchored by Mouhamed Wagne (Diambars FC), a tournament veteran from last year’s CAN U17. He will spearhead the attack alongside Séga Fall Mbodji, Daouda Fofana (Génération Foot), Magueye Niang (Guelwaars FC), Abdoulaye Diop (AC Mawade Wade), Ibrahima Dione (HLM Dakar), and Cheikh Omar Sy (Castor FC).

A notable omission from the final squad is Bara Gueye (Oslo FC), the standout player from Senegal’s U15 African School Championship triumph in Zimbabwe. Preselected but forced to withdraw due to an injury sustained during the preparation camp, his absence is keenly felt.

Pre-tournament preparation

Before departing for Morocco, the Lionceaux will head to Tunisia for a friendly match against their Tunisian counterparts. This encounter will serve as the final tuning session ahead of the continental showdown.
