Sonko rejects participation in Senegal’s next government
Ousmane Sonko: PASTEF will not join Senegal’s next government
The leader of PASTEF-Les Patriotes has delivered a decisive statement through a new social media post. Ousmane Sonko addressed the nation after extensive discussions with the President.
Key points from the announcement
After a lengthy meeting between President Macky Sall and opposition leader Ousmane Sonko, both sides confirmed areas of agreement while acknowledging persistent disagreements. The most significant point of contention centers on the role and influence of the majority party within the executive structure.
Sonko stated: “During this morning’s discussion, we identified convergences but also confirmed major points of disagreement, particularly regarding the position and role of the majority within the executive framework. The structural details of this arrangement remain unclear.”
Following internal consultations with PASTEF’s Executive Committee, new proposals were submitted to the President, which were ultimately not accepted.
