Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé journeyed to Kampala, Uganda, for an official visit on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The distinguished leader from Togo was present at the investiture ceremony for President Yoweri Museveni, who secured re-election in the general ballot held on January 15.
The event, themed « Protéger les acquis et franchir un cap qualitatif vers le statut de pays à revenu intermédiaire supérieur », saw the convergence of numerous African heads of state, alongside prominent delegations from Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

During his visit, President Gnassingbé conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to his Ugandan counterpart, expressing his wishes for a highly successful new term. President Museveni, in turn, acknowledged the Togolese head of state’s attendance, highlighting it as a clear demonstration of the strong collaborative ties connecting Lomé and Kampala.

Key discussions also encompassed pressing security concerns within the Great Lakes region. In his capacity as the African Union’s mediator for the ongoing crisis in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the Togolese leader reiterated his firm commitment to ongoing consultations with diverse regional stakeholders, aiming to facilitate a sustainable resolution to the conflict.

For his part, the Ugandan President commended Togo’s diplomatic approach, characterizing it as one deeply rooted in dialogue and the pursuit of peaceful resolutions. This significant visit underscores Togo’s unwavering dedication to actively participating in African initiatives aimed at achieving peace and fostering robust regional integration.
