United states tightens visa rules from Gabon starting 2026
Starting in late June 2026, the United States government will halt visa issuance from several African nations, including Gabon, marking a significant tightening of entry policies. This decision impacts travelers from these countries who must now travel to neighboring nations to complete their visa applications.
Under the new rule, only about fifty African countries will retain the authority to process U.S. visas, down from the previous fifty-plus. The change aims to curb illegal immigration flows into American territory, with Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Togo designated as the closest alternative destinations for Gabonese applicants.
For residents of Gabon, this means a journey to Yaoundé, Lomé, or Kinshasa to submit visa requests. The logistical and financial burden will rise sharply, as travelers face additional costs for flights, accommodation, and extended stays in these transit countries.
