Rabat witnessed a historic gathering as the US Embassy hosted its annual reception to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence, this time held at the ancient site of Chellah.

The event brought together high-ranking Moroccan officials, diplomats, and representatives from public and private sectors, underscoring nearly two and a half centuries of strong ties between the two nations.

a partnership rooted in history

The United States and Morocco share one of the oldest diplomatic relationships in America, as Morocco was the first country to recognize American independence in 1777. This celebration highlighted the depth of cooperation across diplomacy, security, trade, and investment, while also emphasizing growing collaboration in innovation, infrastructure, and economic development.

The evening also showcased the enduring US presence in Morocco, from the historic American Legation in Tangier—the oldest American diplomatic property worldwide—to the recent inauguration of the new US Consulate General in Casablanca, symbolizing a forward-looking commitment to bilateral ties.

Speaking at the event, US Ambassador Richard Duke Buchan III reflected on the significance of the milestone, stating, “This celebration honors a partnership founded on history, strengthened by trust, and firmly focused on the next 250 years.”

He added, “Our collaboration reflects our dedication to deepening economic and human connections, particularly through initiatives that align with His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s vision of making the Moroccan Sahara a hub for transatlantic partnerships and opportunities.”

celebrating shared moments

The timing of the event coincided with Morocco’s participation in the World Cup hosted by the United States, further illustrating the vibrant people-to-people ties that continue to strengthen the bond between the two countries.

The evening concluded with a stunning display of fireworks and drone performances, symbolizing the unbreakable friendship and shared vision for the future between the US and Morocco.
