In a dramatic quarter-final clash, Algeria’s women’s team delivered a stunning performance against Ivory Coast. Trailing early after Inès Konan’s opening goal in the 30th minute, the Greens found themselves with a numerical advantage when Ivory Coast’s star player Safi N’Sira Ouedraogo was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Algerian goalkeeper Chloé N’Gazi in the 42nd minute.
The Algerian side equalized just before half-time through Inès Khiri (58th minute), who had replaced Lina Boussaha earlier in the game (46th minute). The Elephants of Reynald Pedros had a golden opportunity to regain the lead from the penalty spot, but Rebecca Elloh’s attempt was brilliantly denied by the post in the 62nd minute. Algeria then sealed their victory in the 64th minute when Amira Ould Braham capitalized on a goalkeeper error by Aramatou Diakité.
Historic achievement for Algerian football
This quarter-final triumph marks Algeria’s first-ever appearance in the CAN Women’s semi-finals, building on their quarter-final finish in the previous edition. Head coach Farid Benstiti’s side now advances to face the winner of the Malawi-Ghana quarter-final in the semi-finals.
World Cup qualification secured
Beyond the historic semi-final berth, Algeria’s victory also guaranteed their participation in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. This achievement represents a significant milestone for Algerian women’s football on the international stage.
